Role and Function of a Project Manager

Question: Discuss about the Role and Function of a Project Manager. Answer: A project manager plays the vital role for his dedicated team and he or she needs to communicate effectively with the group member's regarding the concerned project. It is very important for any of the project managers to understand the desired needs and the requirements of the project (Cornelissen). A project manager is a concerned person who executes a lot of responsibility for the planning, designing, execution, monitoring, closing as well as controlling the entire project (Gido Clements). There are several functions of a project manager, but there are four of the most important functions, they are planning, organizing, leading and controlling the entire workplace and the project. Planning It is considered to be the most crucial duty of a project manager as it includes what needs to be done and in what ways. It is evident to know that this is an iterative process which took place throughout the entire life cycle of the project (Havewala). There are some of the key planning duties which are as follows: Defining the desired clarity of the concerned project Development of the concerned project plan Development of the desired policies as well as the procedure required to carry out the concerned project including the team members Developing the entire schedule for the concerned project in the timeframe provided Organizing It is all about the establishment of the teams desired structure for the execution of the concerned project (Havewala). The project manager sets up the desired tasks as well as the other duties of the different team members in order to carry out the task successfully (PMBOK). There are some of the crucial roles of the project manager while organizing the desired structure for the concerned firm, they are as follows: Determination of the organizational structure for the entire team involved within the project Identification of the roles as well as the positions of the different team members involved Identification of the services which are to be offered by the external firms Positions of the staff within the concerned project Leading It has been seen that the execution of the different tasks involved in the project have some difficulties and therefore it becomes the crucial responsibility of the project manager to carry out the entire work with great ease. The leading of any of the project is one of the difficult jobs as well as challenging one for the newly appointed project managers. There are two of the most important elements for any of the project manager concerned, they are skills as wells the effective process of the communication the project manager should be able to understand the desired needs of the employees and also he or she should be able to make them work according to the needs of the concerned firm (Jacobs). Furthermore, the project manager needs to motivate the team members and one of the most crucial things is to reduce the conflicts' if any conflict persists then it may hamper the entire project (Fabozzi and Markowitz). The manager should set up the preferred direction for the team, able to co ordinate the different activities, motive the team members as well as should be able to perfectly assign the task to the deserving team member as per his or her capability. Controlling It is the most crucial part for the successful completion of the concerned project. The project manager needs to synchronize all of the tasks involved in the project in order to keep the project on the right track. There are three of the most significant points which are needed to keep the project on the right track, these re-measuring, evaluating and the correction of the errors within the execution of the project (PMBOK). The project manager needs to check all the progress within the tasks allocated to the different team members as this will help identifying the completion of the project to the desired extent (Gido Clements). The evaluation within the project means the determination of the concerned causes for deviation from the preferred plan (Sensmeier 2). Finally, the project needs corrective actions and this can be done by the project manager in order to bring out the desired effectiveness of the entire project ("Stroke: Latest Treatment Options in Acute Management"). The proj ect manager needs to monitor the project with great ease as this will help in bringing out the desired effectiveness and the efficiency of the concerned project. Furthermore, the project manager should have the desired ability to coordinate the entire task with the different members involved within the group as this will help in bringing out the positive outcomes for the concerned firm. The performance of the different team members needs to monitor by the project manager as to enhance the effectiveness of the project.
